I AM: Wealthy

Remember that being wealthy is different from being rich. A concept I was always familiar with but didn’t know how to achieve it. I’m working on that. I started by watching how wealthy people behave. They invest their money. They have one or two splurge categories and those splurges are within reason. I know a millionaire who is into watches. He will pay $10,000 for a watch, however his car is modest for his level of wealth. It’s a nice nondescript Audi. It’s probably more than most can afford, but it’s not flashy or extravagant.

The first part of my journey began with watching and emulating what I saw. I have two splurge areas. Now, I’ve been called cheap for refusing to spend outside of those splurge areas. I’m not concerned with being called cheap because of my financial decisions. I don’t spend my money on what others think I should spend it on…just like wealthy people. By watching and practicing I can say I am wealthy. If I liquidate all of my assets it would cover all of my debt with a little something left over. The next step is to create more wealth.

Another thing wealthy people have is an attitude of creation. Wealthy people invest, poor people spend. Wealthy people have a good relationship with money, poor people are in a love/hate relationship with money. The book that really enlightened me about my feelings with money is “The Millionaire Mindset” by T. Harv Eker. You need to know your “money temperature” to even start to build real wealth. My journey continues with investing in myself and making my money work hard for me. I identified my mental block to wanting and creating more wealth for myself and removed them.

The second part of my journey has already started. It included following several steps outlined in the book then attending a live workshop based on the book. One of the steps that was the easiest was putting my money into buckets. What we focus on increases. By putting money into my Financial Freedom bucket (one of six buckets) I draw more money to myself. The Universe sees I can handle money and sends more money my way. Read the book.
